Draw Your Favorite deviant's OC!

(>^c^)>~~~<3

Stats:
  • Begins May 1, 2012; Ends precisely May 31, 2012 - 12:00 pm Central
  • Each successfully entered deviation will be awarded 10 points.
Hey guys and gals~! Well, May is finally here and do you know what that means? ...It is legitimate contest time! Just like the giveaway (which ended yesterday; Congrats to le winners), this contest will span an entire month in which you can put in your entries.

The Rules Are As Follows:
  • YOU MUST FAVORITE THIS JOURNAL.
As with the giveaway, it helps to spread the contest around... which is a good thing! The more people that participate, the more likely I am to increase the prizes.
  • You may only submit artwork to this contest. Literature will not be allowed as it cannot be properly judged in comparison to the other entries.
  • You may submit as many entries as you would like! However, please be noted that severely deficient artworks (ones that you just scribbled out in two minutes to get the incentive - that are obviously far below the standards of the rest of your gallery) may be denied the incentive. This is implemented to prevent massive art spamming, and to encourage thought and effort to go into a piece.
  • You may only use an OC once. Meaning if you decide to enter three times, they must be of three different characters.
  • You MAY NOT use your own OC. That would defeat the purpose of the contest - which is dArtist's FanArt.
  • All art must be properly tagged, and in compliance with deviantart's standards; 18 or older tagged material is acceptable as long as it is still in compliance with dA's rules.
  • All entries must be submitted after this journal entry is -Sometime on or after May 1st. You will have up until exactly one minute before the deadline to submit - there will be no extensions; you also must have permission to draw the OC you use for this contest. (Unless, of course, you use one of the OCs thumbed below, as I have already cleared the use of these characters in my contest with their creators.)
  • Credit must be given where credit is due. The ideal form of this would be presented with character name/reference, who created the character, acknowledgement that it is for this contest, crediting yourself for the actual art creation, and any other artist comment you would like to add. Here is an example of how it will ideally look; you may also find the code (of which you can copy/paste) in my artist comment section below this journal:

Got that? Good~! c: Moving on now.

But what does the theme mean?

...Well, it means to get up and ask another artist if you can draw their OC! And, if you are feeling really generous, then perhaps you can illustrate my OC! Or, better yet, some of my favorite artist's OCs! ;D

Now for the fun part... eeeeh!

PRIZES

*All entries will be judged by, and all prizes will be awarded by myself - =MonochrouMation*
There will be two places, and two categories. The first category will be for one or two character portraits, and small deviations (such as pixel art/icons/etc.); the second category will be for large group shots (three or more characters), or for really BIG poster-like deviations. The prizes for each will be as follows.

1st Place; Small
First place in this category will be chosen by workmanship, likeness to character, and visual appeal. Winner will receive:
  • A badge to display on their profile stating their victory.
  • A Six Month Premium Membership.
  • 2,000 points, or $25.
  • A fully colored bust portrait from yours truly.
Honorable Mention; Small
This honor will be bestowed based on sheer effort and improvement (relative to the winner's current gallery). Honoree will be given:
  • A badge to display on their profile, with the honor.
  • A cake badge.
  • A Three Month Premium Membership.
1st Place; Large
First place in this category will be chosen based on workmanship, emotion conveyed in the portrait, crispness, visual and technical appeal, as well as likeness to characters/setting (if applicable). Winner will receive:
  • A badge to display on their profile stating their victory.
  • A One Year Premium Membership.
  • 4,000 points, or $50.
  • A fully colored full-body portrait from yours truly.
Honorable Mention; Large
This honor will be bestowed not only based on improvement and effort, but time put in, and professionalism. Honoree will be given:
  • A badge to display on their profile, with the honor.
  • A cake badge.
  • A Three Month Premium Membership.
  • One dA Muro Pack of their choosing.

Yay~! So does that sound good? I hope so~ Since this option won my poll vote... and I am actually quite looking forward to this contest! Feel free to voice any questions you might have, though, as all answers will be posted in the F.A.Q. below and used to help other deviants as well.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Can my entry be any type of picture? (Flat colors; Shaded; Lineless; etc.) Beta Question

*As long as there is clear effort in a piece, then you may use any type except 'sketch' (as I do not feel sketches convey much effort). However, if at all possible, please try to color your work! It is more appealing. c:

  • How long will it take you to judge / declare winners? Beta Question

*If everything goes smoothly, you should have the results (as well as a detailed explanation of why who won what) by the end of the evening on May 31st. I am confident saying this, since I am normally free on the end of every month. However, there is always a possibility of something coming up, so I will also say that at the very latest the results will be out by June 3rd.

  • Do Fan-Characters, or OCs native to a particular series count? Why? Beta Question

*No, I am afraid that in this case fan-characters will not be counted as OCs. I have chosen to do it this way because I want to see interesting characters that are completely unique! This tends to be inhibited when you have to stick to a certain theme like Naruto, Sailor Moon, Digimon, etc.

However, I am going to allow OCs that were inspired by a certain fandom. e.g. You may notice that I have *Slugbox's ponyish character, Cteno, listed as one of my preferred OCs. This is because while Cteno was originally inspired by My Little Pony, she has never, and never will interact with any cannon characters in the actual show! She is not meant to be a spin off character for mishaps in Equestria, she has her own story, her own background, and even a life/job completely outside the ponyverse! In fact, I would say that the only thing she really has in common with MLP FiM is a pony-like form. Which makes it all the better! So to sum it up, Fan characters are a no. Fandom inspired characters are more than likely okay.

  • Are all types of art accepted? Beta Question

*Absolutely! As long as you can make it look like the OC you chose, then whatever medium you use is fine. Digital art, traditional art, cosplay, sculpture - anything visual. (However, as stated above, no literature is allowed in this particular contest.)

  • How should we inform you when we have finished an entry? Beta Question

        * Noting me with the link is the best way, as I tend to read notes much faster than comments. However, comments placed on this journal, and high-resolution pictures sent to my email (izakuun1926+cA1300@gmail.com), are also acceptable.

  • "Each successfully entered deviation will be awarded 10 points." Does this mean that each deviant is awarded 10 points per deviation entered? (What if someone entered 10 times?) Is there a cap to how many points you would give away in total (i.e. do only the first 100 people entering get the points)? Beta Question

*Yes, each deviation will earn the entrant another ten points; it does not matter if you enter once, ten times, or one hundred times. There will be no cap, as that is unfair towards the entrants who do not receive points. The only way this is regulated is, as stated above, by quality. Quick, sloppy, deviations that looked like they were banged out in under a minute to simply receive the reward will be disqualified. Also, if a person tries to submit massive quantities of these sloppy works, that person will be barred from entering the contest at all. (e.g Say someone sits down and does an OC sketch dump with ten or twenty different doodles. They then proceed to make each sub-sketch in the dump into it's own deviation, eventually trying to submit those deviations to the contest - such behavior would not be allowed.)

  • Do (you know if) we have permission to use other OCs by the artists listed (not just the one pictured)? Beta Question

        * Every artist that has consented to allow me to use their OC in this contest has responded very positively to the subject, and in many cases these artists love receiving FanArt to being with! However, I only asked about the characters presented to you here. While I am nearly certain that they would have no problem with you using another character, it would still be wise to either ask the artist directly (as you would any artist not on the list above), or lurk through their account to make sure that there are no OCs of which they consider very special - and will not allow anyone else to draw.

  •  Can our own OCs be interacting with the other people's OCs? Beta Question

        * For the most part, yes. I will allow you to illustrate your own OC interacting with the artist's OC on the following conditions. One, the other artist's OC must be the focal point of the entire deviation; two, your own OC cannot be a fan-character or a personification of yourself; three the interaction must be relevant. (e.g. You can not have the artist's super-buff and manly OC in a tutu, carrying your OC on a rainbow unicorn. Funny? Yes. Relevant FanArt? Not so much.)

  • What if I do not get an answer from the artist I chose until it is too late? Beta Question

        * Getting permission from an artist to use their OC is mostly your responsibility. I have made it as easy as I possibly can by providing ten different and unique characters (each from different, popular, artists) for you to use without going through the 'Pleases' and 'May I's'. If you decide that you absolutely must illustrate another's OC, then it is your responsibility to get your FanArt cleared. With that said, I cannot be held accountable if he/she never replies to you. In cases like this, you simply must either find another artist, or not enter the competition. You need to use your best judgement on how long to wait, who to ask, etc.

  • May I use more than one of an artist's OCs? Beta Question

        * Of course you may! As long as you get permission for each character you use, then go ahead and populate your deviation with the artist's entire cast if you want; it's really up to you.

  • Does the art have to be solely for the contest? Beta Question

        * This is a tricky question to answer, because it is both yes and no. You may use a work unless you intend to/ are profiting from it, using it in another contest, or giving it away as a prize. (e.g. Commissions, Art Trades, Adoptables, or Kiriban Illustrations.) Basically, if it has an outstanding value attached to it, it is not allowed into the competition. However, things like gift art, requests, thank-you deviations, and the like, are perfectly acceptable (as long as it follows the contest rules and dA's TOS). Just think of it as making your work with the contest in mind. c:

Fine Print:

*I reserve the right to lessen or increase prizes based on participation by the community. This is due to the fact that if a small quantity of people enter, then there is no reason to have four categories. e.g. If only two people enter, there would be superfluous prizes; if one hundred or more people enter, then it is unfair to only have four winners as so many people worked so hard.

* I reserve the right to deny and/or report deviations that either violate deviantArt's Terms Of Service, or the contest rules as stated above.

Thank you for reading~! `Sincerely, Eve. (>^c^)~~<3`
